| no partners | | The conditions didn't look ideal when me and Alex dropped off his car at the Carney Springs TH this morning. The entire southern end of Superstition Mountain was engulfed in clouds. I decided we should stick with the plan and see what the day would throw at us. I've seen more than a few days which looked bleak at first flower into something fantastic. Maybe not today.
The cloud were less engulfing on the flatiron side of the mountain, which gave me hope that it would just blow over and we would get some sunshine and awesome views on the ridgeline. We did the Siphon Draw routine and took a quick break on top. Ran into Sam who was making his way up to the Flatiron and talked for a moment.
Me and Alex continued on up to the saddle where we were quickly engulfed in clouds, and it would remain that way for the entire ridgeline until we descended near 5057. I was slightly worried about navigation, I wasn't too excited about walking on a ridgeline that's hard to bail off of, with visibility limited to 30 - 40ft in front of you. But after walking the ridgeline trail for a few minutes it was clear the trail was extremely easy to follow and well worn.
We experienced a little drizzle about halfway across the ridgeline, which made the rocks just wet enough to keep us cautious. There were a surprising amount of small streams that flow off the ridgeline. The south eastern side of the mountain is certainly wetter, though.
The hike and the scambling was fun, but I came for some good views. No need to fret, this one is close to home. I'll be back soon.
On the final stretch to the Carney Springs TH, some lady with her kids asks, "So, did you guys make it up to the Wave Cave?" |
