This was my first winter canyoneering trip and it was amazingly awesome. Recent rains turned this typically dry canyon near Tortilla Flat into a wicked water wonderland. We hit the first rap after only 10 minutes of hiking and the fun just continued from there. Plenty of pools to swim through-- many were over my head and others only required wading. The water was cold but not freezing....double layered wetsuits worked well for me. The desert colors and reflections made this slot canyon a beauty!
As you can tell by the pictures it was dark in the canyon, at times we wished we had headlamps with us so consequently I had to bump up the camera's ISO setting to allow for hand-held shots, dripping gloves complicated things a bit, too. I'm sure there has got to be a better way to capture photos in this canyon.
I think I could do this short sweet little canyon over and over and over!
Also wanted to give a BIG thank you to Pete for taking me on this adventure!! It takes a lot of tolerance and HUMOR to travel trails with me. This trek left me feeling like one happy hiker! |
