| no partners | | Went back to the Pima Canyon area of South Mountain again to record some trails on my GPS. One track I did 11 years ago included the drive home because I forgot to turn off the GPS that day. I wanted to finish three little sections of the trails I did that day so I could delete the track on my Delorme program that shows the drive home down Rt. 60.
I got to the Beverly Canyon TH off of 46th St. about 5:40am to find the lot nearly full. Seems like everyone wants to get in their hikes and bike rides before it gets too hot. I started down Beverly Canyon, then took the Ridgeline over to Javelina Canyon, then the Mormon Loop to the Devastator Trail. The Devastator is a little rougher than most South Mountain Trails, coming back up took some time. The humidity didn't help.
Once back on the Mormon Loop, I headed back east, then made my way to the Pima Wash road, then took Beverly Canyon over to the Desert Classic, headed east again and took the easternmost loop of the Pima Loops back to the TH.
Saw many more hikers than usual, along with some trail runners and bikers. Noticing that in the urban trails, there are more and more hikers who like to have their music playing out loud for everyone to hear . oh well.
The weather was much cooler to start, but the humidity almost neutralized that. Within an hour, I was drenched. It was bad enough that it was noticeable on all the other hikers, everyone had a "sheen" on them. The sun decided to come out on my way up the Devastator Trail, which didn't make that any easier. The humidity seemed to lessen by the end. Occasional breezes helped keep things kind of cool. |
