| no partners | | Had some Flagstaff Thai food with chums the Friday before his Barack trip. After getting his typical chastisement for not hiking more, I told him I was headed to Kingman for the weekend and had this little hike in mind.
Initially thought I would hike by myself, but Val decided to join as well.
Was a perfect day for hiking...slight breeze, mild temps, empty trails.
We took took the right (north) fork of potato to get to the camp area and then took the Aspen Trail to the Dean Peak Overlook.
After a short rest, we scrambled west to the nested meadow with the "Peak Way" road sign, and then a final 4x4 climb to saddled top. I wanted to climb those last 20-30 feet to the tippy top of Apsen, but my age restrictions got the better of me and I wimped out.
We returned the same way we went up for a true out-n-back while collecting 2 plastic bottles and card-board soup container as trashy souvenirs.
Was a beautiful day with VERY beautiful company. |
