Took my gal Val out to Shoshone Point today.

Could NOT believe how crowded the Park was...incredible. I have never seen it this bad!! Simply to get IN, we had to wait about 30+ minutes in a line of cars that stretched out 1/2 mile back from the entrance. To pass the time, we kept track of all the different license plates we saw. I purchased my annual park pass and inquired about Shoshone busyness with the ranger. She said she heard there was a ceremony there today..."Great", I thought!

When we pulled into the Shoshone parking lot, I was pleasantly surprised that there were only two vehicles. I thought maybe the gig was already over.

Val and I packed up (we got sammies from Crystal Creek in Flagstaff) and started to walk the easy 1 mile to the rim. When we arrived, there was only one other small family and a solo hiker photographing...we walked out to the point and had the whole area to ourselves...sweet!

After walking back to the Ramada, I setup my double hammock between two pines right on the edge of the rim. We enjoyed our yummy lunch despite the fun & anxiousness of pushing the hammock's weight limit. As we were enjoying the great view and the turkey, avacado, bacon, we we heard several vehicles start to drive up the road. It was a wedding party. :( Thankfully, we were about done!! We packed up and walked past the bride, wishing her well.

Val noticed a small tarantula on the road back (see pic) and we got several pics. The little guy was quite agitated at us impeding his progress across the road.

We had time a couple of hours of daylight left, so we drove to the visitor center and lucked out with a parking spot...again, I could NOT BELIEVE how crowded the park was...OMGOSH!!! We walked around the visitor center and bookstore for a while and wanted to get into the Village, but the line for the blue bus was backed up at least 3 buses (45 minutes) long. So we jumped on the yaqui point bus and headed east (in separate bus seating locations of course) to Yaqui where we got to see some nice 5pm shawdows across the canyon!

Overall was a great day just to be in the Canyon area, but I can't imagine what it must have looked like at Bright Angel. :scared:
