| no partners | | I decided to join the "Fun Fitness Hike" at the North Trail in McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The Ragnar event was going on elsewhere in the park, so I decided to avoid the congestion (which I later learned was not a problem at all) by driving to Tonto Verde and parking at the trailhead for the Verde Trail.
After hiking the Verde Trail (and some park roads) to the trailhead for the North Trail, I found that Ranger Amy and my friend Bob were both there. Bob had brought his dogs, Sarge and Kina. Sandra, the hike leader showed up a short while later; Sandra had gotten a few of her friends to come out too.
Bob and I (and the dogs) tried to stay with the group, but the pace was pretty slow, so we ended up finishing the hike on our own. I even got to walk Sarge, who is the easier to handle of Bob's two dogs. We encountered several other dogs along the way; they were both really excited.
We saw a tarantula early in the hike and then a hawk later on. There were a number of other hikers (and dog walkers) out at that time of day too. As I walked back on the Verde Trail, I found that it appears to be a popular trail with the folks in Tonto Verde and Rio Verde. |
