I was excited to be able to hike a good part of the day with no hat (never happens in AZ)! We never got rained on - just in camp AFTER we were in our tents! We had the most amazing double rainbow at camp on Day 2....
Its great to have friends and family ( Wendy & Gary -- Thank you so much for running us up some water at 7.5 miles along FR4) who bring you water and meet you at the end of your backpack (Thanks bigfoot/Guru for making our shuttle so easy and for the QT "Munchies" and beverages at the end of the backpack) so you don't have to unwind your shuttle!
Shawn did an amazing job at keeping us motivated to put one foot in front of the other at day's end so we squeezed out a few extra miles each day and being the water wizard. He know where water was ...especially on Segment #16- you need to know the right wash to walk down to the Gila river!
Couple of things stand out -- you are always seeing the next 2 miles of trail or the past 2 miles of trail, saguaros love the terrain -- we walked past 1000's of rather large, health specimens in dense groupings -- like they were lined up to cheer us on!; there was cell signal to connect across the world but it was miles from nearest water and civilization, 14 hrs in a single person tent with a rain storm raging around you is claustrophobic and exhausting, water is near but far for a good part of Segment #16.
All in all -- 2 more Segments of AZT done!
