Brian and I did another shuttle hike, picking exactly where we left off 2 weeks ago, where the Maricopa Trail meets Bartlett Dam Road. We only followed the Maricopa Trail for 3.8 miles, where it reaches the northwest corner of the MSP North. from there we took the Dove Valley Trail over to the West Express Trail, then took that southwest until it turned into the Axle Grease Trail and hiked that whole trail. From there, we hiked a very short section of the Temporary Service Road (actual name given by Scottsdale), and then the temporary connector trail over to the Powerline Road #1 and down to the Pima-Dynamite TH.

I expected a lot more of this hike to be along dirt roads and/or service roads, but most of it was actually along a constructed single track. Most of this paralleled the powerline, and we did make a couple crossings. But actually, most of the hike was at least a half mile or more away from the powerline, so the views and overall experience along the trail was better than I expected. This was a very good way to reach some of the more remote sections of the trails up here without having to do a 15+ mile hike.

The trailhead at the NW corner of the MSP North looks like a nice spot to do some hikes and reach the newly built western sections of the Stagecoach Trail. But it does appear that the roads getting there are kind of rough. Going to have to do some further research and try to hike more of these new trails.

Saw one trail runner, one other hiker, and 10 or more bikers. The temperature never got too hot, as we were done by 11am and hiked mostly at an elevation of 2600'.

Been dealing with some knee issues the last 3 weeks, which started on the Arcadia Trail. The knee felt good thru the hike, although a bit sore. Afterwards it seems to have regressed a bit. Kind of sore, and the range of motion in bending it is limited. Old people problems seem to have found me.
