Flowers are blooming but peak time has not arrived yet. Bugs were not too bad, really just noticed them at the first big meadow after the lake where you get some peek-a-boo views of Mt. Rainier. Stopped to take some pictures of flowers and the bugs found us in an instant. In the main meadows we saw a lot of bugs and they were buzzing around us but they breeze helped keep them at bay. Some small snow fields to cross and on the last climb up to the meadows there is a fairly long section to cross but we able to manage just fine with boots and poles. Views at the meadows were awesome! The only thing missing was some wildlife. At the end of the meadows we took a right turn and hiked the half mile to a great viewpoint where we enjoyed our lunch. Didn't many people until our return portion which was surprising given the great weather. Some blowdowns before the lake but all were easy to get around. Trail is muddy in sections and there is running water in other places but overall trail was in good condition. FS 73 is in good condition as well. |
