| partners | | After a short first day backpack to camp we decided to make the hardy day hike to summit Mt. Tallac. Promises of outstanding views of Lake Tahoe proved true and by accessing this peak from the west -- and on a weekday and late afternoon -- allowed us to avoid virtually any other hikers, except for a few stragglers on the peak itself.
Along the way we passed Heather, Susie, and Gilmore Lakes. Despite climbing 2000 feet from Susie Lake to the peak, the trail was nicely built and the grade was pleasantly moderate.
I really enjoyed this hike and the peak views are some of the best you could imagine.
But a summer weekend approach via the traditional trail from the east near Fallen Leaf would probably be a miserably crowded experience. |
