| no partners | | I hadn't hiked the Grant Hill area before so I can't compare it to how it looked before the fire, but this area was heavily affected. Despite that, the regrowth of aspen trees has begun in earnest. The parts of trail that follows old road is overgrown but otherwise will just need a little bit of trail clearing.
The parts of the trail that were singletrack are totally gone and will have to be rebuilt from scratch. For now, there are still some areas where vegetation has not grown back yet and the ground is just black with ash. I post-holed into a burned out underground root system which reminded me that obstacles remain, even if they are unseen.
In some places there were old ribbons marking the route. I can't imagine they survived the fire, and yet they were all old and crumbly and seemed not to have been placed after the fire either.
The old summit register "survived" but had clearly been exposed to serious heat. A new register was already in place. Views at the south end off point 9163 over Big Creek are still worth the visit for sure. |
