| no partners | | On day two of the Ruidoso trip we headed to Bonito Canyon to do the lower portion of the Big Bonito Trail. This hike was only the lower portion of the trail to the junction with the Aspen Trail. The scenery on this trail just doesn't quit, it is in the portion of Bonito Canyon that was not affected by fires in the last 20 years. There are a lot of loop trails that can be made from this trail connecting up the Aspen Trail, Crest Trail and Argentina Trail. All in areas unaffected by past fires. This is another definite on a return trip to this area.
Bonito Lake was "dry", drained for maintenance but we stopped along the stream about a half mile below the lake. Beautiful area along the stream with lots of wild flowers. Again I did not post our route because it was only a portion but the link above has the complete route. I thought this was the most promising area of the Lincoln National Forest, White Mountain Wilderness. |
