The trail we opted to do was the Cloud Climbing Trestle Trail. This trail follows along the tracks as they make the final climb to Cloudcroft. Along this trail are two trestles, the "S" Trestle which is in bad shape, mostly collapsed and the Mexican Canyon Trestle which has been restored. Round trip the trail is 3 miles but there are other trails that will extend it to 8 miles. The map at the visitors center is by far the worst map ever and the signage along the trail is even worse. I got a consensus from other hikers and even the park host that they were terrible. We managed to find our way though with the help of others along the way. If in this area I highly recommend this short two hour walk.
This is an area I want to come back to for further hiking. The crest Trail is a 30 mile trail that follows along the crest south of Cloudcroft. There are multiple other trails in this area.
