At the 5 mile mark, I was confronted by a huge Gila monster(hogging the trail). I stopped dead in my tracks and couldn't get to my camera fast enough. But if you blow up one of my pics of the prickly pear(pic 6) you will see a part of the pink and black monster. No more surprises on the way down, I missed the one turn at eastside of Cedar basin ascending to the north. I had followed some other cairns, about 10-15 minutes later I pulled out my map(for the first time) and figured I missed the turn. I got back on track, and saw the first hint of humans. There were 2 tents set up at the campsite on Reavis Creek. From the campsite, I headed for the falls. I hit the falls about 25 mins later. My feet never touched the water. A couple of the campers were hiking thru the creek. My pics of the falls didn't come out very well, due to the sun and photographer(who lacks skills). I picked up a friend at the falls and leaned on "him" the whole way back. First time using a stick; which helped me greatly going out. I was going to pop an energy drink when I could finally see the fence, and decided not to. I met some boy scouts hiking in and gave their leader my map which I pieced together thanks to Kanode's GPS route. Kanode's GPS route was an awesome aid. About a mile later, I would be startled again. Throughout the day, I heard "rattles". I saw a rattler and stopped dead in my tracks again. I got a pic of it heading off the trail(pic 21). My ride home was tough with those narrow stops with traffic coming down. All in all a fun day. |
