| no partners | | I made some changes to the miles and AEG, for this particular hike, because we did not do the whole loop.
We started out on the Horseshoe Trail, then connected with the Gateway Loop Trail and then finally with the Windgate Pass Trail completing our hike at Inspiration Point. The hike started out at an elevation of 1688 and we reached 2714 at Inspiration Point.
We got to the trail head at 9:00 but soon realized that my wife had left her pack at home. So...back in the truck we went and got back to the trail head around 10:00 or so.
The trail was fairly busy with hikers and also a fair number of mountain bikes. The trek to Inspiration Point is predominantly an uphill climb the whole way to Inspiration Point. However, there is nothing too steep. I think the park's "intermediate" rating for this trail is fair.
We immediately noticed that the flora were clearly past their prime and nowheres near as pronounced as it was on our visit just a short while back. We also noticed that some of the cactus are starting to bloom. Another thing of note is that the private jets flying into Scottsdale airport are constantly buzzing overhead. It wasn't too obnoxious, but clearly a constant presence on the hike.
This was a very enjoyable hike and one that we would highly recommend. Some wine and cheese would have been nice at Inspiration Point. A lovely place! |
