A friend from Massachusetts invited me to spend a few days with him at Lake Damariscotta near Jefferson, Maine for some hiking, kayaking and general relaxation.
The Maiden Cliff trail is part of a network of trails in Camden State Park. The trailhead is located just off the highway and has parking for at least a dozen cars. The hike starts out moderately steep, stays that way for about half a mile then levels out until you reach Maiden Cliff.
We spent a fair amount of time admiring the awesome views from the cliff area, then followed the Ridgeline Trail about 8 tenths of a mile to another view point. After spending a few more minutes there, we returned the way we came.
The trail starts and remains under a thick canopy of trees until you reach the viewpoints. I can only imagine what it would look like in mid- to late-September when the leaves begin to turn. Another time maybe.
Short but wonderful hike with great views. Now it’s time for a little kayaking! |
