2nd full day into my Maine-cation. We started with a kayak ride out to a couple of islands not far from shore, explored for awhile, then headed back, cleaned up, and went out to Booths Bay for some Lobstah. On the way back, we stopped at the Dodge Point Preserve along the Damariscotta River for a walk in the woods.

The Dodge Point Trail is a combination of forest road (the “Old
Farm Road”) and spur trails that allow you to stay close to the river. It starts on the farm road heading east towards the river, then bends south along the river. After 1.5 miles or so the trail turns west then back north to return to the trailhead for a nice 3 mile plus loop over easy terrain.

You are under a canopy of trees typical of Maine throughout the hike. The river is on your left for about a third of the hike with a few worn paths you can use to go down to play in the water.

This was a nice way burn a few calories after a rich meal. My buddy, who is staying longer than I, liked it a lot and said he plans to return.

Wonderful hike.
