| | 5.7 | | | | | | | I made contact with a climber about some ambitious Canyon summits and one of them was actually on his to do list, so he said let’s get together and start game planning and obviously practicing for me, as I let him know I was not a climber. We did trad because that is what our Canyon summit is and that is about all this climber does.
We started with Cruiser’s Chimney. This was an easy climb, one that I could have probably did without rope, but I got some practice taking out and putting in cams.
I then top roped Renaissance Direct. I got very good reviews on this climb. One of climbers told me I had a natural talent for it and to keep climbing. That slab is something though, but half way in I really started to feel it, see the route and gain an understanding of some of the fundamentals of climbing.
We finished with Hanging Garden and he was actually going to throw me on lead to get some work with leading trad, but time was running a little short and I just cleaned the route. I think leading it would have definitely been tough, but it’s a pretty easy one and had some nice cracks to get some work in with the cams and nuts. Cleaning the route was good practice though and I really got a nice idea how that hardware should be planted etc.
