| partners | | Date hike after spending the whole morning at MSC event for trail opening Kovach Nature trail. Was pretty darn hot - for some reason I got all grumpy as we were going up Tom's Thumb and so I asked Brad if he would try out a climbing route just to hike on - no actual rock climbing. He is such a good ying to my yang. I'm a director/boss kind of person and he's a go-with-the-flow kind of person. Works really well. I try to tell him often that I appreciate him.
So we took trail to Gardener's Wall at emergency marker TT5. Then signs are marked in red font - and these are not maintained by the City nor patrolled by MSC. Emergency markers on these trails say "CR" for climbing route. So if you're ever injured you give that marker info to rescue teams.
Light was fantastic going behind the Thumb ridgeline - shadows and grey/purple color everywhere. Trail is definitely in need of some pruning - I wrote a few climbers on Instagram that are out there all the time to ask what the plan is for pruning. There are groups that do it intermittently. The jojoba was slicing up my calves and I didn't have my clippers in my backpack (should have).
Picked a point where it looked like you needed rope or better shoes or less fear . ... and turned back. Dinner was at Tom's Thumb gas station BBQ - mexicorn and chicken - yummmm. Lovely evening. I want to call it "Tom's Thumb Squared" for hiking TT and then eating at TT. |
