| no partners | | My wife and I arrived at the trailhead at about 6:15 am. The sun had not yet crested and the temperature was perfect. At about .5 miles we spooked a deer from where it had bedded down. Some of the desert plants were still in bloom. The off-trail portion wasn't that difficult and well worth the effort to gain the views above the canyon. There was a light breeze to keep us cool along the high points. We left the ridge at about 9:00 am, saw another hiker for the first time near the end of our hike, and arrived back to the car at 11:00 am. The only downside was it got a little hot near the end of our hike and we couldn't shed a group of small flies that followed us most of the way back down the trail. This was a really good half-day hike and we enjoyed it. |
