| no partners | | Needed to get out on 4 wheels and picked this route as I knew it would be easy and was hoping to see some autumn colors in December. The route I took is FR 413 aka Camp Creek trail, it follows the creek from Bartlett Dam road down to the Verde River at needle Rock. The route posted in the description looks like just a section of cave creek/7 springs road, but the rest of the description matches my route so I decided to post this here.
the trail is easy, mostly a sandy wash, probably could be down in 2wd in good conditions, but need high clearance. it starts out nice and wide with multiple lines that all end up at the same place. about half way through the canyon narrows and the walls are quite tall in places. The part in the canyon is pretty cool, the walls are pretty scenic. there was one section with several small cacti that appeared to be just growing out of the rock. There are also several numbered trails that intersect for side adventures. I also believe this is part of the great western trail. As you reach the end towards needle rock there are several old tall trees that are nice.
Couldn't actually get to the river at the end, the camping/recreation area is closed due to storm damage and it doesn't appear that any work is currently being done. road is open all the way around, and once you hit the pavement again I think the rec area further down with the paved parking lot looked to be open still.
I didn't see a single person the entire time I was off pavement.
