This seems to be the premier hiking trail in the new Cottonwood Canyon State Park, so as soon as I finished the Hard Scrabble Trail, I made the short drive over to check this out. I had a quick lunch in the parking lot, and hit the trail just after noon. Again, I was the only person on the trail, and this time the log book showed no one had hiked it since over the weekend.

It was still in the upper 20s/low 30s, but it had stopped snowing which was nice. I had been told that there are bighorn sheep along the trail, and the logbook entries were littered with reports of sheep sightings, so I was excited as I set out along the river.

While following the course of the river, the trail weaves in and out of grasslands and around basalt cliff faces, which add some nice variety to the trail. The trail was covered with raccoon, deer, and sheep prints. I wasn't lucky enough to see any sheep, but I did get to watch a pair of river otters catching fish which was a fun experience.
