Originally wanted to go much further and finally get down into the many wonderful canyons out here but that will have to wait for when I have more time or an overnighter.
As usual out here we soon came across remants of the ancients and then in a spot I would not have expected we hit a area with very high concentrations of worked stone, sherds, etc..
Weather was about as good as it gets sunny and breezy with nice overcast in the late afternoon.
Once this soil gets wet out here it turns into a mud slog that make travels downright brutal as the rich clay sticks to boots like mucky glue so I always prefer to hike this area when it’s as dry as possible.
A few old time locals tell me about their travels out here long before the wilderness was designated and being able to drive quads everywhere they pleased which sounds fun indeed but thankfully that’s all over now because the land out here is far too special to be spolied by the masses and machinery of modern man. |
