| no partners | | Found something special after more extensive map research, although about ten miles in I decided to back out realizing it was going to be too far for solo comfort of a day trip so I instead proceeded onward to another area of interest.
Six swift and cold river crossings required, some hefty elevation gain and route finding was involved but other than that it was smooth sailing.
Soon after I came across signs of the ancients and then encountered what appeared to be remnants of a site as there were vague rock formations and literally thousands of sherds and hundreds of precious stones everywhere which I’ve noticed is a common theme with the sites out here.
Just from my observation the ancients seemed to be amazing rock experts as they would find, break and work somewhat normal looking rock on the outside revealing the precious gems and stones on the inside which are always scattered about the ground.
They stand out as they are polished, shiny and some even that appeared to be glazed in heat giving them an almost glasslike appearance, truly amazing stuff.
Saw a coues buck with a doe and one poor jackrabbit with a giant tumor on its chest on the way out but other than that that was surprisingly it for wildlife sightings besides the javelinas on the drive in.
The Mazatzals are certainly the land of many deer but they are also the land of many ruins if you know where to look and willing to walk far enough... |
