Day 2 on the Camino Del Diablo we stopped in the Pinacate section to hike a volcanic crater. The Pinacate volcanic geology comes across the border along this section so we hiked from road to the crater. However, before exploring the crater we ventured another 1/2 mile to the border and checked out the obelisk and border fence. After that we headed to south end of the crater which is recommended way to access since the other sides are very steep and loose volcanic rock. The caldera was cool to see and a large cairn marked the center. After checking that out we made our way out of the crater and back to the vehicle. Definitely worth the effort on this hike to see the crater and border!
