| partners | | It was a waterfall filled weekend in the Mazatzal's! With all the snow and rain we circled this weekend to see what all the runoff looked like and we were not disappointed. We hiked in Barnhardt Trail to the divide and on to Horse Camp Seep for the nights camp. Arriving early around noon we were able to do exploring in the afternoon.
Chumley proposed the idea of dropping into the abyss beneath the waterfall trifecta with a twist. We did the same descent a few years back but this time Chumley spotted an additional climb and traverse between upper and lower waterfalls. Not knowing for sure if it went we gave it a shot and fortunately everything worked out. It's difficult to describe the route but safe to say we were able to view all the waterfalls from some very unique angles! The agave, prickly pear and other assorted cactus made for an interesting route which Chumley described well. Despite the rugged route it was without question the highlight of the weekend. After taking what seemed like a ridiculous amount of photos we climbed back out of the abyss and back to camp at Horse Camp Seep.
Back at camp we relaxed after the tough hike and enjoyed the evening with Johnny showing up a bit later with Daisy the wonder dog! Cold night but the fire made up for it.
Next day we headed out Rock Creek Trail passed Hopi Spring and back up to the divide. That was followed by the big descent down to the Rock Creek trailhead. However, we stopped by the Rock Creek falls first and also met up with Lee and Blanco where we all checked out the falls for awhile before finishing up the hike. Big thanks to Lee for being our driver between Rock Creek trailhead and Barnhardt trailhead |
