Because of the higher elevation everything was still very green and fresh looking for the most part. At the intersection of Camp Creek Wash there was already much more flowing water than we expected which was really a bonus.
We checked out the Maricopa Trail intersection as it was well marked and followed it northeast for a half mile or so. The trail was in great repair thanks to someone. Besides the American Flag that has flown above a mining claim marker for a long time we saw a new flag planted on the hilltop on the N/W corner of the intersect of Blue Wash and Camp Creek. Perhaps a new claim? I didn't climb up to find out.
We made our way up to the falls on Camp Creek and they were great as usual. We had the place all to ourselves and ventured upstream from the falls a ways towards the Sears-Kay Ranch. Lots of little waterfalls along the way. On the hike back to the car I ran into two women on horseback who took umbrage with the fact that I said "hello". Oh well...what can you do.
Back at the car two guys in a massive Mercedes Sprinter van with Oregon plates were unloading two fat tire mountain bikes and asked "how far does this wash go?" I told them it ends up at the Verde river which I guessed was about 20 miles and they responded "perfect! that's just what we want". I'm probably wrong on the mileage but I can't imagine cycling in soft sand for any sort of distance at all. Geez, they'll have to come back too. All uphill. I hope they are enjoying themselves! |
