| no partners | | I had plans to hike in the Guadalupe Mountains but when I got there it was raining and foggy. I decided to head down to the Big Bend area and do some hiking down there. I had never been there before so I drove the short 250 miles to the park (nothing in Texas is close). The weather was much better there. After checking out the park and doing the usual tourist stuff I still had time for a short hike. The Window Trail was a good choice for the couple of hours I had left in the day. The Window trail follows a creek down to Window Spring along a very well maintained trail. At Window Spring the trail ends because there is no place else to go except back the way you came. The creek drops over a falls just past the spring. I have no idea how far down the falls go, could not get close enough to the edge to look over, the rock was way too slick for me. There were a few others on the trail but overall it was fairly empty, this doesn't surprise me given the remoteness of this Park. This was a good starter hike for me. Tomorrow I will do the loop trail that covers most of the other trails in the Park. |
