| no partners | | On my return trip from Texas I stopped in Cloudcroft for an afternoon hike. I had been on some of the trails in the Trestle Recreational Area a year ago and thought this would be a good time to finish up the rest. The three main trails are The Old Cloudcroft Highway T5002, the Switchback trail T5004 and the Cloud Climbing Trestle Trail T5001. The 9 miles of trails were easily done in 3.5 hours with plenty of time to read all the informative signs.
The weather was perfect with the exception that it was a little windy. It looks like Spring was just happening here with new growth on all the pine and fir trees. The aspen trees were bright green with new leaves. All the trails were in excellent condition with a very gradual slope, After all trains had to climb up this mountain and they don't do steep. The only trail with anything that could even be considered as steep was the Crossover Trail T5001B and that was only .3 miles long. I spent the night in town for a little more hiking in the morning before heading to Arizona and the Chiricahua Mountains. |
