This time I hiked Scharnik Peak with my German friend Stephan and his son Niklas. We stared from the lower pasture and hiked the steep face of Scharnik. It looks more imposing that it really is with steep rocky slope and some hand line cables bolted into the rock cliff but it's all part of the trail. It was nice to have the cable but I didn't really feel it was necessary to navigate the section. Eventually we made the summit and had the place to ourselves for the entire 35 minutes we were up there.
After the summit we headed down the opposite side of the ridge. The other side was less steep with decent trail to the saddle below. At the saddle we continued down to another junction and took the trail to another hut in the lower pasture. It seems that most of the huts are in the lower pastures just at or above tree line for the cows. Some of the huts make their own milk and cheese like the one we stopped at near the end of the hike. Of course we enjoyed a beverage as a thunder storm moved through the area but we had only some light rain back to the trail head. Awesome day getting another peak! |
