| no partners | | | Took a tour from within Katmai National Park. 23 mile bus ride on a dirt road with 3 river crossings in a vehicle I called “The Beast”....a jacked up bus! After looking down on the valley where Novarupta caused the largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century we hiked down. Area is called the Valley of 10,000 Smokes because water trapped under the ash sent steam into the air. Our group of 8 followed a Ranger down into the valley. Very interesting 6 hour day. |
