Parked by the Tredegar Iron Works , fortunately I had been before because the NPS visitor center was closed temporarily. This was the major supplier of armament and ammunition for the confederacy during the Civil War. There is also a privately owned Civil War Museum on the same site.Walked around here viewing the outdoor displays of presses, turbines and other old and rusty machinery. This area is well done and informative and worth a visit. After walking the canal walk and around Browns island took the newly opened , 2016, Potterfield pedestrian bridge across the James River to the Manchester area. There it connected to the floodwall path, good views of the city from this side, a climbing wall converted from the railways approach to one of the crossing bridges. Moderate use with walkers and joggers for a weekday. Worth checking out if you have a few hours in the area. |
