I went ahead and drove down (4wd needed for the drive out)before dark and camped on the creek bank a little ways in. There's some nice grassy tree covered areas perfect for small group camping on the banks. A hobbit like path leads the way under low branched trees.
Started out in the morning mostly following the flowing creek but sometimes opted for the dirt Jeep trail that winds in and out of it. I ended up hiking all the way down to the Verde and took a dip in the water. Before turning around I checked out the air strip above. Nice and pretty maintained, there was even a picnic table and horshoe setup. The hidden ammo can log showed I had just missed a flight.
Turned around and hiked the way out.
Trail was very scenic with full grown trees icluding some narly and spooky black velvet ash trees. Hotter and more cactus towards the Verde end, but the river made it worth it.
I also found Sasquatch's house |
