| no partners | | Shhh... this trail is so much easier than the main Fossil Springs drop in. Well it is compared to the way out if you have 3 days worth of camping on your back.
Hope backlogging's not too frowned upon. Just saw this trail has substantially fewer logs.
As mentioned in the main summary, getting your feet wet right at the beginning of the treck is more than a possibility. On the way out who cares if your feet are wet for the car ride, but if you have 4 miles of trail ahead of you...
It took about 2hrs start to finish each way. With no major hill climbs on the road part of the trail, the ups and downs along the way seemed to even out. You'll still have a bit of a scramble up from the creek to the road, and you'll more than likely lose the trail. Just know if you head away from the creek, you have to hit eventually.
There was still some flume to awe over and snap pics of, but the trail isn't as scenic or shaded as the main Fossil trail. It was pretty hot when we went with no cloud cover overhead. Bonus was that there was a nice shady midpoint to break that had a water hole for purifying and topping off.
When we got to the springs we secured the large camping spot on the North side just ahead of the dam. Guy's-trip-camping-rule outlaws tents so it's a tarp for the bottom and a tarp for top if need be. We needed be for a short shower but that was all.
Blackberries and rope swing for the stay of the trip. Fire by night. Always hate leaving this place.
Uneventful out and wet shoes of course on the floorboard home. |
