At the south end of the ridge, we took the single track trail down into the bowl area and then back to the parking area.
The north end of 1356 where it makes the sharp right is where the views began to get nice. Once we got up on Blue Ridge, the views were really nice. Looking east to the Goldfields, Superstitions, and Four Peaks was fantastic. At the south end of the ridge, the rock formations were really cool. We walked out to some overlooks and peered into the bowl below. The views were really nice, but it also looked kind of dicey since the rocks have that gradual curve where you feel like you're never sure if you've gone past the point of no return.
Heading down the singletrack, there was one spot where it was really steep and had a lot of loose scree. I found a route to get over to some bare rock and guided the family over to that spot. Everyone slid a little bit in that spot, but made it over to the stable area safely with no issues. Just enough of an adventure on our Sunday morning hike.
Saw a few other hikers up on the ridge, and 2 horse riders after we got to the flat trails again. didn't see any ATVers, bikers or other motor vehicles. Weather was absolutely perfect and beautiful the whole time. Stopped at Senor Taco to pick up lunch on the way home, which we gorged on afterwards and put me in mild carb coma to end my morning. |
