| no partners | | With my beloved Supes still on fire. I wanted to see if I could get a view of the fire. Since they closed the 88 at LDSP, the only spot I could think of was Blue Ridge. I arrived predawn and met up with my hiking buddy Patrick and started up from the Bulldog Canyon Gate. I could smell the smoke and the sky was very hazy. We made it to ridge and saw a bunch of low clouds and a lot of smoke on the eastern horizon.
We could see the fire damage on the area below 5024 and across the Massacre Grounds plain. No flames visible, but there was heavy smoke coming from Garden Valley. It looked like Hackberry Mesa and Black Mesa were getting it.
We climbed up to the edge of the ridge and up on the tuff rocks for a better view. We were wondering why there were so many bees buzzing around up there. It was when we decided to climb down that we noticed we were standing right over a large honeycomb. Duh! I didn't get stung, but my buddy was not so lucky.
All of these fires the past couple years have managed to burn up some pretty amazing places. This fire is not over and I fear Boulder Canyon, Battleship and maybe even La Barge Creek are getting it now. 
I know fire is part of nature, but I don't have to like it. |
