I-19 - head west
Where 289 splits into 39 go 2.8 miles and park on the south side of the road.
Head up the wash to the saddle and then just find your way staying close to the base of the red cliffs and ridges.
Lots of really cool rock hopping and climbing around.
This way is about 3 miles round trip.
No paths anywhere.
This is my favorite way to go.
OR
Stop at a wide place the north side of 39 and head up the wash. There is no path and nary a trail but its short with lots of roly and slidy rocks but at least it's insanely steep. It's got a few surprises along the way.
You can see Atascosa from the split and into Mexico. |
