3-30-2020
I have some time to catch up on logs for 2020.
Social distancing is something I’ve practiced for a long time.
-
This hike/trek was right at 3 miles one way.
The first two miles was a road that comes and goes
And the last mile was across catclaw, roly rocks and ledges.
It was interesting in a good way.
-
The last quarter mile got steeper with each step until the walls right below the caves.
I guess you would call them caves.
There were three that were big enough to stand up in with plenty of room left over.
The plan was to get up there and have lunch in one of the caves, enjoy the view and head home.
BUT
As soon as I stepped into the first and biggest one I heard bees.
I could see them going in and out of a crack in the roof. Billions and trillions of them.
Okay…. Lots. Quadrillions maybe.
There are three B’s that Scare me:
1. Bees
2. Bears
3. Bovine
I managed to skirt around a tilted narrow ledge and take a couple pictures.
All three of them are connected by two windows. (see pics)
There was no trash in the caves.
-
After getting buzzed a couple of times I headed back down a different way.
Now,
there is another trail down a slope in the AZ wilderness in the shape of my butt.
1/3 of the way down there was a huge rock with a hollow large enough for several people to stand or camp. Here there was a lot of cans, clothes and rope.
-
The trip back was quick.
Stopped by Boulder Tank.
There were some concrete stock tanks and a wash that had a lot of 5 gallon drums.
-
Six miles under five hours sounds slow but there were lots side trips and I stopped a lot to enjoy the views. The view of Atascoas was perfect.
I would like to go back IF/when the temperature is low enough that the bees wont come out and play. |
