| no partners | | This was a great little canyoneering trip with Matt and Liz! This was my first time out with the sun protective clothing (doctor's orders) and it worked out fine. I didn't think it would hold up so I actually carried extra clothes with me but the stuff did okay. It was a little funky to be in the water swimming with long sleeves and long pants but I got over it quickly after a couple pools of water. The area was beautiful, not nearly as trashed as I had anticipated. The water temps were chilly but tolerable. We did 2 rappels and decided to exit the canyon by bushwhacking up the side. A lovely monsoon storm started to roll in, clapped some scary thunder and then rolled out as quickly as it had appeared. Had a near situation while in the middle of the second rappel. My foot got wedged in between some rocks while in the middle of the falls. Liz calmed me from above and Matt used a fireman's belay from the bottom so I could have my hands free to reach up through the falls and undo the buckles on my 5.10 shoe. They sure make a great team. I eventually slipped my foot out of the boot and finished the rappel in a sock. Liz recovered my boot, rappelled the fall with grace (some day I'll be able to do that, too) and we finished the hike. Grabbed a yummy dinner at the Beeline Cafe and headed home. Can't wait for the next trip.
Looking for new canyoneering friends since Matt and Liz are moving out of state. |
