| no partners | | When I hiked a portion of the east mountain trail last week, I resolved then to come back and hike a portion of Six Shooter. The temps were cool enough to do something in the Valley, but I went anyway. Glad I did. Clear blue sky with a high of 70 something at the trailhead, 60's at higher elevations, and breezes ranging from 0-25mph (0 when you needed it, 25 when you didn't want it). The trail is in perfect condition.
I started at the bridge and hiked up to the junction with the Telephone Trail. About four miles with some good elevation gain along the way. The first three miles are steep. I stopped several times to catch my breath. The start of the fourth mile reversed the trend, descending for a short distance before leveling out for a mile on the way to the junction with Telephone. I stopped there for some trail snacks and a 15 minute break before returning the way I came.
I saw two hikers along the way and four mountain bikers. The mountain bikers are leaving their mark on the trail. Not in a bad way, just a few additions to enhance their ride down the mountain.
A recent episode of Arizona Highways spoke of an emerging culinary scene in Globe. After the hike, I decided to try out an upscale burger joint called Nurd Berger. It looks like a shack, but looks are deceiving. I chose the Marsten, a bacon, jalapeño half pound cheeseburger with crispy onion rings, lettuce, tomato and a sticky BBQ sauce. One of the best burgers I've eaten. And I couldn't finish it! There was a steady stream of people in and out as I enjoyed my "berger."
Great day. |
