| no partners | | Took 2nd Water to Boulder Creek, which had as much water as I've ever seen out there. Amazing. No water reports needed - it's everywhere.
I was planning on hiking the Boulder Canyon Loop from FW, but I didn't have the proper attire for wet creek crossings. I hiked back up the muddy and wet 2nd Water trail.
About a half mile from Garden Valley, I turned off trail to ascend the ridge south of the trail. Outstanding views along the high points of the ridge. I followed the ridge south until I was within easy reach of the Black Mesa trail. I stopped there for lunch with a nice view of Black Mesa and Superstition Mountain in front of me.
After lunch, I dropped down to the Black Mesa trail, took it back to 2nd Water and headed back to the trailhead.
About 1.25 miles from the trailhead, I caught up to small group. The FW trailhead volunteer out on patrol had come across three lost hikers on Black Mesa. No water or food, or any idea where they were. They thought they were doing a two mile loop. Oops.
The volunteer, Valerie, was coaxing them back to the trailhead. I shared my food and water and helped her get them back safe.
Gorgeous day out. Snow on the mountain tops above 4000 feet. Muddy trails, cushy off trail. |
