| no partners | | I had planned on a Sixshooter, East Mountain ccw loop from the Una Del Oso trailhead, but I didn’t have it today. That was evident as soon as I started up Sixshooter. I decided I'd go up as far as I could, then return the way I came. That wasn't very far as it turned out. My desire to keep going was waning and disappeared when the trail left the creek. I turned around there and decided on breakfast in Globe instead. A much more pleasing choice.
The weather was perfect. Cool at the start with a nice breeze. Lots of water in the creek, more than I've seen on any previous trip. A fair amount of wildflowers on the lower section of the trail. Sixshooter was in good shape, the section I hiked anyway. The Una Del Oso trail doesn't look like it's getting much use since the fire. I walked down the trail a short distance before I started the hike.
The gate at the Icehouse CCC Picnic area was closed coming and going. Just past the gate on my way out, I saw a ranger meeting with some volunteers, possibly there for some trail maintenance?
Gas prices in Globe are $1.20 (Circle K) to $0.90 (Chevron) per gallon cheaper than in my hood. I saved $18 filling up my tank in Globe. That paid for about 2/3 of the gas used on the round trip. I'll take it.
It wasn't what I had in mind, but it was still a nice hike and I always enjoy the drive. A good breakfast and saving a few bucks on gas was an added bonus.
May the fourth be with you Star Wars fans. |
