| partners | | @The_Eagle invited me to join him and @Tortoise_Hiker on a hike along the Butcher Jones Trail. It's been way too long since I've hiked with either of them so I jumped at the opportunity.
With an early start, we just about had the trail to ourselves to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful lake. We took a few spur trails down to the water, which was calm, almost mirror like - the speed boats weren't out just yet. Wildflowers dotted the south and east facing hills. I had my first Owl Clover sighting. The usual suspects, poppies, lupine, scorpion weed, etc, were all present.
At the end of the official trail, we took an off trail route to create a loop. It wasn't exactly what Bruce drew up, but it worked out well. We had to bust through some brush to find a steep hill to climb so we could get up to a ridge, but the climb was short-lived. We topped out on peak 1942 and took a short break. It was gorgeous up there. After our break, we followed the ridge NNE until we intersected with Bruce's original route. Wild flowers were abundant on the ascent to 1942 and all along the ridge.
We closed the loop with a trek through a wash that brought us back to the official trail. While we had the trail to ourselves early, the last half mile was met with substantial resistance due to the scores of folks now on the trail heading in our direction. But that also passed quickly and then we were done.
This was a splendid hike and it was great to be out on this absolutely gorgeous day. Bruce and Denny, it was great to see you both again and it was great catching up. Thank you again for inviting me along. |

Wildflowers Observation Substantial Extreme in spots. Mexican poppies, Coulter's Lupine, Owl Clover, Scorpion Weed, lily and a few others that I cannot name were abundant on our off trail route. |
