| no partners | | I decided to set out with Becky to explore this area that’s been on my i dont think for a while after seeing some recent adventurers shares fall colors and some water flow.
We parked at the vista and made our way down the road. I can understand why ADOT doesn’t want to fix it….Probably means there are less people out here Anyways, We had a blast making our way up the canyon. Several large boulder fields turned into some fun obstacles and route finding. For the most part it was a light to moderate boulder hop through. There were some tough shrubs here and there but otherwise, not to much in regards to plants/bushes that we needed to get through. The upper part of the canyon turned into a nice wash. We had to remember to keep looking up the whole time because those canyon walls hold so many interesting caves and rock formations. We stopped for lunch at Lost Dutch Canyon before making our way out of the canyon.
We decided to make our way up what initially seemed like a gentle slope upwards. This quickly turned into a steep scramble up loose rock. Being the stubborn women that we are, we forged onward and upward instead of backtracking down and over to a ridge that was likely better. We finally made our way up and around to the top of the ridge. Would not recommend this way again Definitely type 3 fun - but it was worth it.
Man, oh man, what a view from up there! The ridge was easy going with sweeping views of Fish Creek Canyon, Four Peaks and the central Supes. We made our way along the ridge until we found a nice ridge to follow down to FR213. At the bottom of the ridge we found a wonderfully unavoidable field of catclaw. We twisted and turned and high stepped out way through the spikey mine field before getting up onto the home stretch of FR213. I had been dreading the road walk back to the car because I thought I would get bored and be tired….but the views were great and it turned out to be a very pleasant walk back to the car. All in all, a very fulfilling day of adventure. |
