| partners | | I've been on an "Autumn in the Desert" kick lately. Hitting some amazing Wilderness areas in South-Central AZ the past couple weekends. I wanted to get in a visit to this one before all the leaves fell off.
We parked at the Fish Creek Vista and hiked down the closed road. A little chilly/windy at the start, but the gloves and fleece layer were soon stuffed into my pack before we hit the bottom.
The road is still in ok shape until you get to the rock fall area. I wonder if this section will ever get repaired? Part of me hopes it does not, as it will serve as a filter to keep most folks out and let this wild area keep a little of that wildness.
The canyon is the same place it's always been. Untamed, no trail, boulder hopping, cat-claw a-plenty, and of course, totally amazing. This is one of my favorite places in the Supes for sure.
We were in no hurry and stopped a lot to take photos and soak in the awesomeness of this area. There's something about the changing leaves and the contrast of the towering cliffs and desert flora above.
There were lots of pools and some light flow between them. Lots of muddy creek beds too. That added a little fear-factor as the normally not so grippy house-sized boulders were even slicker with a boot loaded up with mud.
We went in just under 2 miles from the bridge and made our way back out. The hike out along the road is steep, but pretty easy hiking compared to what was below in the canyon.
Another magical visit to this beautiful canyon. Next up, hike down stream from the bridge to the lake/dam. I have not done that one since the late 1980's. |
