Since I had made so many trips up to that area over the years, there wasn't much I planned to do around town, so I decided to spend my free time on the middle day checking out some of the beautiful Sangre de Christo country to the northwest toward the Rio Grande and Taos. 
Also, along the Rio Grande at Rinconada was Sopyn's Fruit Stand, another place I have stopped over the years. I knew Anna was up in years (would be be at least in her late 90's if still alive). So, I really wanted to see if it was still in operation. Alas, when I got there the stand was still there, but the sign was gone, so I figured it was out of operation (do an online search for some interesting info). I continued toward Taos on NM 68, but didn't go into town and turned off on NM 518 at Ranchos de Taos for my return to Las Vegas for night two.
