| no partners | | The plan was one night at the Castaneda Hotel in Las Vegas, then a second night at the other Allan Affeldt property there, the Plaza Hotel. I got the reservations set up and the trip was on. I had stopped for a meal at the restored Castaneda in 2019 shortly after it opened, but was unable to stay there, as rooms were not yet available. So the main purpose of this trip was to stay at the Castaneda. The covid pandemic hit in 2020 and I was not able to do the trip then, but by 2021 the situation allowed me to make an attempt. I did get to stay at both places, but the results were not to my satisfaction. Part of that is on me, since I failed to note that the day I chose to stay at the Castaneda was the one day of the week the bar/restaurant was closed. Next was the second night at the Plaza. In this case, the restaurant had just re-opened under new management, but the bar wasn't quite ready yet. I was able to get a meal at the Plaza, but not at the Castaneda, and was unable to enjoy the bar at either place. So this part of the trip more or less bombed. 
This triplog is being written on July 9, 2022, so my plan was to make another visit up there this year to stay at the Castaneda. However, the devastating forest fire in the area has made me think I might hold off until 2023, but not necessarily. Anyway, as much as I have liked lodging at the Plaza Hotel over the years, I do not like the current vibe of the place, so I don't plan on staying there again. I have made lots of trips to Las Vegas over the years and have seen just about everything in the local area, so I think my next trip will be the last. It will be depressing to see the fire aftermath for sure. |
