| no partners | | On the drive in I planned on stopping at Sunsites to get a few things, only to find there was no store/gas. So it was on to Sunizona (junction of US 191 and SR 181), where I knew I could get what I needed at Mustang Mall. I hadn't been in that place in many years and what a pleasant surprise it was! I don't keep up with the wine/winery scene, but I know it has really been expanding in Cochise County. So, I had to do a double take when I walked in and saw they had a whole section dedicated to local wines! Very cool and at reasonable prices as well. I bought a couple bottles, in addition to the other things I wanted. This store is very important to those living in the area, and has friendly helpful folks running it, along with a good selection of merchandise. Highly recommended!
All I can say is if you are driving around in this part of the state, you better be heads up on your fuel situation. There is gas available at Mustang Mall, Elfrida and McNeal, otherwise you will have to go to Douglas, Willcox, or Benson. The same advice applies if over in the Portal area on the other side of the Chiricahua Mountains, with the closest gas at Animas, New Mexico, otherwise it is on to San Simon or Douglas. One good thing is that the Shady Grove Truck Stop is open again at Road Forks, and has been selling gas for less than Lordsburg.
Everything was looking good along West Turkey Creek, which had a nice flow again. Not too many folks in Sycamore CG. I had to check things out after our bomber summer. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Substantial in places as the summer fades. |
