This mostly off-trail hike starts at the Billy Lawrence trailhead at the end of FR235 and follows the top of a ridge northwest out to a viewpoint above upper Deep Creek Canyon. Then it turns west and continues to follow the ridge up to a rock butte. The rock formations and canyon views along this hike are spectacular. Finding a route through the rock formations along the ridge going west can be a little challenging and can require some scrambling up rock outcroppings. But you will be rewarded with views of a hoodoo village on the side of McFadden Horse Mountain and some pretty amazing mushroom shaped rock formations.
