You can see it on your right (north) as you are going over Telegraph Pass on I-8, the big mtn. pass you have to go over when traveling east on 8, just before you get into Yuma. Not a gorgeous hike, but a fast, steep workout. Neat views from the ridge where the telecom forest is. Partly single track trail, partly narrow, rough VERY steep paved road, closed to public vehicles.
To find this hike, take Foothills Blvd. exit a few miles east of the city of Yuma. Take the north frontage road all the way to its eastern end, where there is a barrier. This is a couple miles or so from Foothills Blvd. exit. To find the single track, hike along a road to the north (not the one paralling the freeway.) You will see a trail at the entrance to a little canyon. Follow this trail a couple miles, you'll get to the cell phone tower road. Then follow it to the top of the ridge. There is a hiker's sign-in and bench there. |
